Distilling the labdanum, the aromatic resin secreted by the foliage of this shrub, produces an essential oil with a fragrance that can be identified from afar. It has a very complex composition and is very active, even in small doses. The resin was highly sought-after in the Middle Ages. Cistus essential oil mixed with a vegetable oil is often used on tired and mature skins.
